Borders Competition
United Arab Emirates | Deadline: 25/09/2010
Photography and related media exhibition co-organized by: Maraya Art Centre and Shelter
Building upon the dominant trends in global art practice of transgression, shifting identities and cultural dislocation, the theme of “REGARDING BORDERS” embraces our unique environment within the Arabian Peninsula.
A dynamic region consisting of ever-evolving individual, geographic and cultural boundaries, as well as newly developed territories, the Arabian Peninsula is a prime site for creative experimentation.
Photography is a tool with a dual function appropriate to the topic: it enables artists to creatively respond to these happenings while they visually record this particular time and place.
In the interest of highlighting the diversity of perspectives of those from and/or residing in the GCC, the exhibition will contain artists with a variety of visual signatures and conceptual approaches to the topic. All photographic, photo-collage, film/video and lens-based installation will be considered for exhibition inclusion.
Rule for Entry
• Applicants must be residents and/or nationals of one of the six Arab states in the Gulf region (GCC).
• Artists may submit a maximum of five (5) digital image files for exhibition consideration on CD; JPEGs are recommended. We regret that CDs and DVDs will not be returned.
Suggested dimensions:
8x10 in at 150 pixels per inch (ppi), or
20x25cm at 60 pixels per centimetre (ppcm).
• All work must be completed within the last three years. There are no size restrictions on the final presentation of work.
• If submitting a PDF, each image file must be approximately a full sheet of A4.
• No original prints or slides.
• Do not email TIFFs or moving image files. If submitting moving image files, the first 5 minutes will be viewed in the initial screening process; you may submit sections of your piece(s).
