Dubai gets Moor…
The top rated trance DJ Andy Moor
Grammy nominated Brit DJ/producer Andy Moor has a legion of music achievements under his belt that explain his nominations, awards and high-ranking in DJ polls globally. The number 1 (and Grammy tempting) remix of Delerium-Angelicus (2008), nomination at the DJ Awards (2009) and hotly-anticipated self-titled album release in 2010 make Andy a strong contender in the trance world. We caught him somewhere between Charlotte and New York (he’s touring) but he just had enough time for a quick chat with Infusion…

From someone who has gone potential band-geek status (Andy played 6 different instruments by the age of 11) to bonfide trance legend, can you identify the catalyst for the move into DJing?
I was always into electronic music, there just wasn’t any opportunity back then to get any kind of education or experience in the EDM world. So the only option was to continue learning about music until I could find a way to get into the music that I loved. I eventually practiced around friends houses on their equipment, and went to sit in on local studio sessions where I observed many a hit be made.

You’ve remixed for Britney Spears, Paul Oakenfold and Avril Lavigne. Do artists approach you for remixing or are there certain tracks you want to work on and pursue?
Mostly it’s the record labels that get in touch, then we decide whether it’s something I should be doing or not.

You have your own record label, AVA Recordings, which you began in 2006 and has so far achieved worldwide success. What hopes do you have for the label in the near future?
The label has really gained the attention it deserves in the last few years. We have done this by concentrating solely on the music and not worrying about anything else. My hopes are to continue to gain solid fans to the label, fans that appreciate our way of working, and also to keep attracting the artists that produce such quality music.

Tell us about the experience of doing a world tour?
It’s a great experience, but can be extremely tiring. I’m constantly on tour, as I like to go back to the UK in between gigs - even if I have 2 days free - I’ll come back to work in the studio. Then I go straight back out on the road. It is not as glamorous as people presume, as a lot of time is spent half dead in airports, on planes, in cars etc, but obviously it’s very exciting to constantly visit different countries, experience different cultures and play music to amazing people.

Having been nominated for the DJ Awards (2009), and being awarded Best Trance Producer and Best Trance Track at the Trace Awards (2004) among other accolades. Is there a particular award you’d like to win?
I really don’t even consider awards. It doesn’t really interest me too much, all I care about is doing the best I can in everything I do…if someone wants to throw an award at me then I’ll catch it, but it’s not important to me.

Your music has been described as a uplifting, euphoric and with a driving electro twist. Do you have anything to add to that for your fans?
If they are fans I’m sure they know how my music sounds, but for those that don’t it’s music that can evoke lots of different emotions, but also make people dance. Lots of tension and release in the tunes, with progressive elements, trance elements and elements stolen from other genres.
