Our talk:
• How did you get involved in the industry?
Art was always a part of my life, even when I was studying psychology I used to find comfort and sometimes solutions in drawing my mental and emotional states of minds.
When I came to Dubai 7 years ago I worked as a teacher in a school but I felt unsatisfied until one day I decided to get into graphic designing. After a couple of courses I felt ready for the change and found a job in the field. This time of my life defined my style because it gave me the tools to take my art to the next level and opened me doors to digital art. The rest is just about being involved and getting the right exposure.
• What artist or famous quote inspires you and why?
Cristy C. Road (http://croadcore.org) has to be my favorite artist both in her drawing style which is punk rock inspired and in the subjects she chooses.
• What tools do you use as an artist?
From acrylics to digital art to tattooing... I think it's important to try different medium until you find the one that suits you best...If you haven't yet it means you have to go out of your comfort zone and that's what I am trying to do.
• What would you like to see more of in Dubai (events, organizations, social gatherings, etc)?
I think the art community is starting to get really diverse in Dubai and and I have to admit I'm happy with the way it's growing.
• What’s the most superstar thing that’s happened to you?
mmm...Never felt like a superstar...yet!
• When you’re not working or creating, what else do you love to do?
Playing with fire is my second passion...if you see fire on JBR beach at night there's a good chance it's me :)
• Any advice for artists entering the industry?
Follow your feelings when creating, don't try to impress..Not everybody is going to like your art anyways so might as well enjoy what you r doing.
• What was your most memorable artwork and why?
I think it's the "Randomness of a happy bird" not because it's the best technically or visually but because it's the smallest artwork I have ever did and the easiest drawing and still, it was shortlisted for the Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award and it stood proudly next to huge murals and beautiful artworks done by other artists at the exhibition :)
• Any message you would like to give our viewers?
Spiky Penguin Rocks! :)
