This workshop is intended to act as an introductory course to the process of papermaking. Papermaking is a fun and easy craft that has multiple applications for all artists and makers. Through a simple technique, various waste papers can be converted into sheets of unique hand-made papers. As most of the equipment and materials required are available around the home, it is a relatively inexpensive and environmentally friendly process.

Through the sessions, participants will learn the basic skills and methods needed to produce recycled, handmade papers. The approach will be one of individual experimentation and participants will be encouraged to combine alternative fibres, petals, threads, leaves, feathers etc. The technique of lamination will also be explored, layering the hand-made paper whilst still wet to produce patterns, imagery or contrast.

Participants will be encouraged to relate the process of papermaking to their own practice by using the papers they produce as an interesting surface for drawing, painting or printing onto, manipulating for origami, greetings cards or collage, or incorporating into bookbinding or printmaking projects.
