Learn about the masters of modern art through this studio-based workshop. This introduction to modern and contemporary art emphasises experimental and nontraditional painting techniques.

Abstract Art and the Natural World
For: Teens
Dates: Sundays in January
Time: 5:30–7:30 pm
Location: Gallery One

Brief: Abstract art may depict real forms in a simplified way, keeping only an
allusion to the subject. Learn to see the world in new ways by transforming
your observations of the visible world into abstraction using charcoal, pencil,
pastel, and water-based mediums. Imaginative direction and personal
expression are encouraged!
Line, Shape, Color, and Texture
For: Children ages 6–12
Dates: Sundays in February
Time: 5:30–7:30 pm
Location: Gallery One
Educator: Andrew Field
Brief: Explore the lines, shapes, colors, and textures that are found in modern art.
After collecting ideas about experimental painting in Gallery One, head to
the education art room to paint your own modern masterpiece!
Color, Form, and Space
For: Adults
Dates: Saturdays in February
Time: 5:30 to 7:30 pm
Location: Gallery One
Educator: Deborah Coffey
Brief: Explore the elements of abstraction and nonobjective painting, discovering
how they evolved throughout art history. Using the building blocks of color,
form, and space, learn to create nonobjective artwork.
Programs are free, however registration is required and capacity is limited.
