This workshop will consist of a series of demonstrations and practical exercises covering the basic techniques required for creating jewelry as a gold/silversmith. Through the creation of individual pieces, students will be guided towards finding their own unique means of expression through their work.

JEWELRY: Introduction to Jewelry
6 sessions x 5 hrs/Total 30 hrs

Maximum number of participants: 6

The workshop will include three specific tasks:

DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF A RING WITH CABOCHON STONE
• Filing, sawing, soldering, bending and stone setting
• Selection of gemstone and design incorporating stone
• Bending and soldering a ring out of a silver strip
• Creating/adjusting a bezel setting for the stone
• Soldering the bezel and setting the stone

DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF A PENDANT OR RING USING THE WAX TECHNIQUE FOR SILVER CASTING
• Carving the ring or pendant out of wax
• Piece will be cast in Lia’s studio
• Finishing and polishing

DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF A FILIGREE NECKLACE WITH BEADS
• Bending wire into shapes and soldering
• Selection and insertion of beads

SCHEDULE
Session 1 Saturday 16 January
Session 2 Saturday 23 January
Session 3 Saturday 30 January
Session 4 Saturday 6 February
Session 5 Saturday 13 February
Session 6 Saturday 20 February

Each session will be scheduled as follows:
Part one 10.00 – 13.00
Lunch 13.00 – 14.00
Part two 14.00 – 16.00

A sandwich lunch will be provided

FEES: FULL COURSE FEES MUST BE PAID ON REGISTRATION
Tashkeel members 2340 DHS per course
Non-members 2600 DHS per course

MATERIALS:
Tashkeel will supply basic materials required for workshop exercises. Participants must purchase any additional materials used. Products will remain the property of Tashkeel until they have been paid for in full.
